Review of The Secret Crush Book Club (Peach Blossom, #3)

There’s something irresistibly cozy about book clubs, especially when they involve a hint of romance and self-discovery. Talia Hibbert has been a favorite of mine for quite some time, and as soon as I heard about The Secret Crush Book Club, I knew I had to dive in! It’s the kind of story that invites you to grab your favorite cozy blanket and curl up with a cup of tea, and let’s just say, this audiobook didn’t disappoint.

At the heart of this charming tale is Dani, a lonely single mom navigating the complexities of parenthood, love, and herself. Enter Zoey, the gorgeous librarian with a secret that could change everything. Told in a dual POV, the narrative beautifully captures both women’s journeys, revealing the layers of their lives and their budding romance. I found Dani’s struggles with co-parenting relatable and poignant. The tension between her and her ex-husband added a realistic touch, echoing the everyday challenges many parents face. However, it was a little disappointing that some of these plot threads remained unresolved, leaving me wishing for a more satisfying conclusion for Dani and her ex.

Zoey is a delightful character who embodies warmth and charm. I loved her playful demeanor and the way she complements Dani’s more serious nature. However, I must admit, the secret Zoey harbors felt somewhat underwhelming and didn’t quite justify the drama surrounding it. I kept hoping for a big reveal that never quite materialized, which left me feeling a bit shortchanged.

As for the romance? Oh, it’s sweet, with just the right touch of tension! The interplay between Dani and Zoey is beautifully crafted, with sexual tension that builds gradually. The intimate moments were well-written and perfectly aligned with the overall sweetness of their developing relationship. Talia Hibbert has a knack for writing characters you can’t help but root for, and I found myself cheering for these two as they navigated their feelings amidst the backdrop of the book club.

Angel Pean’s narration truly brought the story to life. I’ve already admired her work in The Kiss Countdown by Etta Easton, and her tempo and tone in this audiobook seamlessly transported me into the world of Peach Blossom. Her ability to give each character their unique voice made my listening experience all the more engaging. It’s clear I’ll be seeking out her future performances!

In The Secret Crush Book Club, themes of loneliness, the love of family and friends, and the courage to embrace new chapters in life are beautifully woven together. It’s heartwarming and relatable, despite a few unresolved plotlines that left me wanting more clarity.

Overall, I’m excited to explore Talia Hibbert’s previous works after enjoying this installment. If you’re a fan of slow-burn romances with a side of self-exploration, this one is for you. The book’s representation of a sapphic relationship, a single mom, and a predominantly Black cast adds richness and inclusivity. So, if you find yourself in need of a sweet and engaging listen to cozy up with, look no further than The Secret Crush Book Club. You just might find a new favorite author along the way!
