Book Review of Every Little Breath

Review of Every Little Breath by Keri Beevis

OMG! What have I just read?! Every Little Breath by Keri Beevis is a gripping rollercoaster of a novel that had me glued to the page from start to finish. As a first-time reader of Beevis, I can confidently say that if her other works are anywhere near as thrilling, I’ve just discovered a new favorite author. Honestly, this book is the epitome of a “just one more chapter” kind of read—I found myself saying that more times than I could count!

From the chilling prologue that immerses you into the mind of a prolific serial killer to the jaw-dropping epilogue, every element in this story pulled me deeper into the world of Casey Fallon, leaving me utterly captivated. As Casey returns to Norwich during her university break, she’s immediately faced with an unsettling relationship with her boyfriend, Gareth, which sets the stage for the heart-pounding drama that follows. The way Beevis captures the suffocating tension in Casey’s thoughts makes her struggles feel so relatable. My heart raced as she faced her own terrifying discovery—a woman bound and broken in a hidden bunker. The visceral emotion Beevis delivers in that moment is unforgettable.

The writing style is sharp and taut, perfectly matching the high-stakes plot. The use of the first-person narrative is particularly effective, lending an eerie intimacy to the story. I felt as though I was directly receiving the chilling insights from the serial killer himself, which heightened the suspense tremendously. And let’s not forget the pacing—it’s relentless and electrifying. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, Beevis would toss in a twist that left me gasping, often forcing me to reassess everything I thought I knew.

One standout moment comes when Casey receives an email from a mysterious figure calling himself Steve, referencing her and setting up distressing riddles. I could feel the dread rising in me as I empathized with her panic-stricken quest to save lives while grappling with her own demons. Beevis knows how to build tension, and she does it masterfully throughout the narrative.

While my only minor quibble is with the character development of Finn Murphy, who transitioned from a gentle PC to a more self-assured detective, it’s a small blip in an otherwise impeccable storyline. Perhaps it’s a testament to how the passage of time shapes us, mirroring Casey’s own transformation.

In conclusion, Every Little Breath is an adrenaline-fueled psychological thriller that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys layered mysteries filled with jaw-dropping twists. It’s a riveting read that draws the reader in, making them an accomplice in deciphering its dark riddles. I emerged from this book breathless and exhilarated—it’s definitely not a read for the faint of heart! If you crave a tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat, enter Beevis’s world, but be prepared to hold your breath.

Thank you, Keri Beevis, for this explosive experience, and to #RachelsRandomResources and #BloodhoundBooks for the ARC! I can’t wait to dive into your other works. Check out my full review on my blog at stinathebookaholic.blogspot.com.
